"Planned Parenthood performs more than 130,000 abortions a year, about a 10th of the national total". (Source: Story by RAYNER PIKE, AP US & World - 4/10/96).
For months I carried this page with several Planned Parenthood quotations from what I believed to be reliable sources. Your feedback was encouraging; I received many comments like the ones that I've listed below. And yet, I received one response from Planned Parenthood (or someone representing herself as the Vice President of Planned Parenthood) that wasn't encouraging at all.
My response to this message was tempered by the fact that my wife was also 7 months pregnant at the time. You see, I am not affiliated with any pro-life group or organization and when some big corporation threatens to make you pay for their "lost revenue", it made me think seriously about the consequenses of my outspoken beliefs. So I pulled the page and quietly and thought about it. After a few months, God blessed us with a beautiful baby girl, and I began rethinking my actions. (Personal Note: we have been blessed with 2 more children since this article first appeared! God is Good!) Just exactly what "lost revenue" were they referring to? Could Planned Parenthood's sales of so-called "health" services drop because I spoke out against their performing abortions? I hope so. Did I influence a single mother not to have an abortion at a PPFA affiliate because I posted quotes from one of their pamphlets?
I'm just one person, with a wife, six children, and a web page, but my motivation is simple. I believe that one person can make a difference, obviously Planned Parenthood does too. Perhaps you think as I do and believe that we have allowed legalized abortion to rob more of our national conscience than we ever intended. Well, I believe it's time we pause to consider the wealth of scientific data that has been acquired since 1973 and Roe v. Wade legalized abortion and subsequent decisions have brought us to legalized infanticide. It's time we objectively consider the ultrasound evidence that clearly shows a real human baby that is worth protecting exists before the time that a baby is born. Evidence anyone with an open mind would find compelling, if not shocking.

I received many encouraging comments like these:
Thank you for putting this pro-life information on the internet. It has successfully helped us write a term paper on Abortion and planned parenthood. We are trying to convince our teachers that a baby is a child, not a choice.
God bless you
I am the vice president and general counsel of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.
It has come to my attention that you have placed on the World Wide Web a home page that purports to be the home page of Planned Parenthood.
This home page begins with the following statement:
This is to advise you that the words "Planned Parenthood" constitute a service mark of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., which is registered in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. You are, of course, in no way affiliated with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, nor have you been granted permission to use the words "Planned Parenthood" in any context. Your misrepresentation that you are speaking for Planned Parenthood is in clear derogation of the rights of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and has resulted in damages for which we shall look to you for full reimbursement. In addition to trademark infringement, we believe that your false attribution of various statements and positions to Planned Parenthood is libelous.
We demand that you immediately cease and desist from any and all use of the words "Planned Parenthood" and that you give us immediate written assurance that no further use will be made of our name nor will further misrepresentations be made regarding the views of this organization. You may write to me at 810 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019.
Very truly yours,
Eve W. Paul
Hmm...Does that mean for people that disagree with Planned Parenthood's practices too? I also disagree with some other "legal medical services" such as euthanasia, and I disagree with legalized abortion on demand. But these are my personal opinions alone. I am in no way affiliated with Planned Parenthood of course, that's obvious. As far as not using the words "Planned Parenthood", it seems to me that the fair use of publicly disseminated materials in order to define and support my positions, make it necessary for me to provide references and excerpts from these same public materials.
It only makes me wonder, how many others have received similar "letters"? In short, I believe that intimidation on the internet or anywhere else is a tactic that I and many others find appalling.
Planned Parenthood is a taxpayer supported operation that will go to great lengths to foster a "good" image, an image that in reality, includes the killing of healthy unborn human beings. As long as we as a nation continue to allow abortion on demand, we must never allow those that would make this admitted wrong, seem more right.
Recent News Clippings concerning Planned Parenthood:
My personal comments are in italics.
Pamela Maraldo, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and a Catholic, responded that for those who suffer from diseases like Parkinson's and juvenile diabetes "the encyclical says their only source of hope -- fetal tissue research -- should be condemned." (Source: Nations Conspire `Against Life,' Pope Declares; Abortion,Contraception Decried By Laurie Goodstein - Washington Post Staff Writer - 3/30/95)
Does Ms. Maraldo, as a Catholic, really believe that a person's only hope is fetal tissue research? I would remind her that our hope as believers in Jesus Christ should not be on "fetal tissue research." or any other medical procedure, but in Jesus Christ Himself.
On April 9,1996 Gloria Feldt, who married at 15 and had three children by the time she was 20, was named president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In her West Texas youth, Feldt said, she "lived what religious political extremists want to impose on all Americans." (Source: Story by RAYNER PIKE, AP US & World - 4/10/96)
The "extremist" label is very effective, especially the "religious extremist" label. That is why it is quickly used by those trying to justify abortion. But look at the following ideas from the executive director of Planned Parenthood in Pennsylvania. She is talking about women supposedly having a 'right' to sex-selection abortions. I submit this director is the real abortion 'extremist'.
"The alternative to aborting a fetus that is unwanted because of its sex is giving birth to a child that is unwanted because of its sex.... [E]ach woman has the right to continue or to terminate a pregnancy for her own reasons -- even reasons that seem frivolous or unwise to others," the executive director of Planned Parenthood in Pennsylvania wrote in the New Republic in 1992. Nobody but her boyfriend knows Gretchen has come to the Planned Parenthood clinic today. Gretchen is among 2,100 women at a dozen clinics who are taking part in a test of the "abortion pill," mifepristone, also known by its brand name RU-486.
Are we so desensitized that we are even willing to tolerate personal gain as a motive for abortion?
" .... a baby now in her life is unthinkable. She's an overachiever, carrying an accelerated classload and working 25 hours a week in a pizza joint. She's pretty, athletic, clear-spoken and at age 21, she's focused on the future.
concluding the article.....
A Planned Parenthood spokesperson characterized this chemical method of destroying human life: "It's not pleasant and it's not quick. But most are reporting a positive experience, they describe it as more natural." (Source: AP US & World 5/14/95 - By ROGER MUNNS Associated Press Writer)
A positive experience, more 'natural'? Yet of course nature had nothing to do with it. It was a chemical designed to kill an albeit small but otherwise healthy human being.
AMHERST, N.Y., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Life Decisions International issued the following:
Douglas R. Scott, author of "Bad Choices: A Look Inside Planned Parenthood," uses [the current PPFA president Gloria] Feldt as an example of a Planned Parenthood leader who "makes my job of educating people on what Planned Parenthood is really all about a whole lot easier."
According to Scott "Planned Parenthood believes that one thing worse for a teenager than sexual activity is teen pregnancy." Scott has long been critical of Feldt's notion that teen pregnancy is the problem rather than teen sexual activity. "To Gloria, the worst thing a teenager can do is give birth," Scott said. "She apparently does not see the way that happens as an important issue."
Scott's favorite Feldt faux pas regards her unwarranted 1987 attack against all true pro-lifers who believe in a peaceful solution to the problem of abortion. Gloria asserted that there are obstacles which "prevent ... families from having full access to reproductive health care, information, and choices." The first obstacle she listed was the pro-life movement. "Our successes brought a political backlash which spawned anti-choice organizations ... These people are guerrilla fighters who sabotage our positive agenda by intimidating legislators," Feldt contended. According to Feldt, "Physical and emotional harassment of patients and staff -- pickets, bomb threats, and the like are everyday occurrences." However, Scott checked with Phoenix police which confirmed that there had been no reports of bomb threats "and the like."
Pro-lifers are not "anti-choice", many of us simply believe that our available choices do not included killing undesired or 'unwanted' human beings.
Feminist and abortion advocate Naomi Wolf writes in "OUR BODIES, OUR SOULS"
"At its best, feminism defends its moral high ground by being simply faithful to the truth: to women's real-life experiences. But, to its own ethical and political detriment, the pro-choice movement has relinquished the moral frame around the issue of abortion. It has ceded the language of right and wrong to abortion foes. The movement's abandonment of what Americans have always, and rightly, demanded of their movements--an ethical core--and its reliance instead on a political rhetoric in which the fetus means nothing are proving fatal" ......"Yet that has left us with a bitter legacy. For when we defend abortion rights by emptying the act of moral gravity we find ourselves cultivating a hardness of heart."
I too, believe that is what is happening. The Bible says: "They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts."Ephesians 4:18(NIV) Pray that Ms. Wolf will respond to the light that has been revealed to her.
